Massive Volt Drop on Motherboard

This is a repost. Original was posted in overclocking and cooling but no one was able to offer any advice. Anyway....


'I needed to put a fair few volts through my Q6600 to get it Prime stable at 3.4 GHz... However I noticed my tempeartures were still pretty low.

In the bios my Vcore is set to 1.525 and under full load my tempertaure hover around the 52 deg C mark.

When I load CPU-Z I notice that it reports a core voltage of 1.472 when idle and 1.44 volts under full load... Is this just a case of volt drop on my motherboard? My PSU is good (620W Corsair) so doubt if it is to blame.

FYI My motherbaord is a Gigabyte P35C DS3R. Is this volt drop a problem? If I want to try for a higher OC should a just set it higher in the bios but believe the value CPU-Z gives me?'
 
Vdroop and vdrop are normal (Intel actually demand them).

The amount of drop differs from board to board, and the quad-cores drop more than the dual-cores. Yours is quite big, but I've seen some ASUS boards drop over 0.1v under load.

And yip believe what CPU-Z tells you.

This is correct, but it's all relative.

CPUz and all the other programs only report what a sensor tells them. It's the same sensor, so they should all say the same, except they don't because they all apply little correction factors. They are all relative though, so if a program starts off saying 1.25V and you turn the BIOS adjustment up by 0.1, it may only go up 0.08, but if you adjust it a further 0.1, it should go up a further 0.08.

So in the above example is it actually going up by 0.1 or 0.08?
