• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Massively overkill? I think I know the answer…

Not sure EOL is good term to be using as that sounds damning for what people are saying is still a card that will perform at the high end for years to come.

I'm in a similar dilemma but for productivity. AMD is a no go for me but I'm watching 3080-3090ti's on ebay. I can't justify the cost brand new even though I can afford it.

Truth be told, a 3070 probs be good enough for me but as always, for a bit more you can always get better:)

But I do think 1k for a 3090ti is probably too much in the grand scheme of things. There's plenty on ebay, just find local to you and go collect it in person.

just enjoy your gpu, it's fast as **** and much reduced from what it was. in the performance/cost graph i bet it does ok. there's plenty on here who doom and gloom about other people spending their own money on gpu's, it's something to behold, just ignore it, although you have kind of asked for it as you've created this thread.

Haha I'm inclined to agree with this.

Either you settle for medicrity/scrape by with the bare essentials or you just get what you want and stump up the money. Going by what nvidia are saying and their track record, it is unlikely that any of these cards get an kind of meaningful shave, even the less desirable cards have had just small discounts that imo aren't even worth waiting for.

Yeah, I’m still trying to find something but have this as a backup. 3080s are around £750ish new…..which is why I thought £999 for the jump to a 3090ti wasn’t too bad in the range of things. I guess the market is driven by impatience and need sometimes….and I’m both.

I'd have probs bought the ridiculous 4080 instead of chucking a grand at an eol last gen card.

To be honest I'd have actually held out for amd release and inevitable 4080 price cut from its overpriced position.

Absolutely. There is no crystal ball with graphics cards. None of us really know what will happen tomorrow. You just have to go with what you feel today and I think you did the right thing. :)

guess your talking about using the Samsung CRG9 which is 5120x1440, way more pixels than a 16:9 1440p screen (7.3m vs 3.6m). It's actually more res than my 3840x1600 lg 38gn950.

the 3090ti will be a beast and run everything fine, it'll power iracing in VR as well if you want to dip your toes

the only real question is how will the new AMD cards preform when they finally go to sale compared to the 3090ti at £999

Yes, got a g9 on the way. I’m sticking with the single 49” for now but wanted option of adding a further 2 27” in future
