I am thinking about jump to adsl from o2, I have a BT line that just needs reconnecting and BT will do this for free!

the master socket is on the side of the room with no mains, so I cannot put the modem there.

whats the best way of getting a connection from the master socket to the modem (approx 5m cable need)

XTE-2005 faceplate

Cat5e or good quality twisted pair phone cable to connect it to the modem?

cheers

For 5m it won't make much too much odds what cable you use, but decent cable might be a good idea. Linking to a competitor probably wouldn't though...

brill!...

I have a BT line but it's stopped at there end. BT have told me I will get approx 6mb

tried to get BT to connect it (which they will for free) I was then gonna get o2 to test it! if it was crap I was gonna ring BT back and cancel the line! but BT have said if they connect the line then it a 12month contract! no cooling off period..

Yup you're on a 12 month min voice service from BT (although you can argue this down to 3 months, and normally line reconnection fee is £35).

Straight line distance of 1.1kM will probably give you around 16-20meg depending on line quality and other distances. Be* will play with your line's SNR and turn on/off other options to get a better throughput, i don't know how willing the O2 customer service people are to do this (even though it is the same network)

currently with VM 4mb although it's going to 10mb, but the traffic management is pain.

that costs £22 including phone line and unlimited UK calls.

or I can get phone inc unlimited UK calls £15.45 and up to 16mb from o2 for £10... so it would be £3 more, no traffic management and up to 16mb! but if my line is crap I am stuck with a 12month BT contract.
