Just a quick one.

Am i right in that to do X1900 Crossfire you would need the mastercard and an XT?? as i have seen the crossfire bundles on ocUK and they come with a mastercard and a XT-X but would the XT-X's speed be put down to match the master?

I think OCUK get the bundles given to them as is so they have to sell them as is (they don't make them up from their stock).

You are right though a X1900 master and X1900XT would be better together than a X1900master and X1900XTX.
 
ya i thought as much i guess ATI just send them like that to try and make some more money :p

actually one of the main reason crossfire is better than SLI is the fact that each card runs at its own speed. even though the Crossfire edition is slower the XTX will still run at its own speed

Eh?

Sorry fella, you're dead wrong there. With current drivers each card in SLi can run at different speeds.

I may be wrong, but I thought Crossfire had to have the cards running at the same speed, so by default reduces the faster card to the speed of the slower. I'm no Crossfire expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong! :)

Was wondering what a master card was. Literally thought it was a credit card hehe

Can someone post a link or point me in the right direction of where i could find more about this mastercard. Cheers
 
If you buy a master and anXT-X. The XT-X slows down to the master speed.(XT speed). It is still worth getting an XT as you can overclock them. you know it will clock to XT-X Speeds.

i may be wrong about SLI (as i dont know much about it) but ATI does not clock the XTX down to XT

A. Both cards will continue to operate at their individual clock speeds.

No this is not correct. Its a common misconception infact.
Crossfire cards can run at different clockspeeds. Infact a mastercard & X1900XTX will be slightly faster than a mastercard & a X1900XT. The faster card will simply do a bit more work.

That is why pairing a X1900XTX & a mastrercard will give you the most performance & why OcUK sell the crossfire bundles as they do.

i believe i already said this above ;):p
 
but surely the the xtx will have to wait for the mastercard to do the same thing so that it can render the full image. Therefore it may run at its faster speed but it has no performance benefit because it has to wait for the master card at slower clocks to finish the task.

no, the work is not split in half, the X1900XTX simply draws more of the screen.
