so i just swapped my pc in to a new case and i went from an air cooling to watercooling and when i ran prime 95 i found [my cpu temps would hit 100 in 7 mins and the pc shut down so i cleaned off the paste and instead of spreading the paste this time i put a dot in the centre and i ran the test again and i hit 100 degrees in seconds. im running an i7 6700k at stock speeds is my water cooler DOA or is it my pasting abilitys? everything was fine untill i swapped to the water cooling

first is it a new cooler you brought ? second have you made sure its sitting correct ? third it needs slightly more than a dot or it wont spread enough to cover.
make sure its sitting correctly too as this is important, also if it is a used cooler there just may be a slight air block and you need let it push back though

its a new cooler and the first time i spread the paste all over the cpu but this time i put a dot on it and its not shutting down now but the temps seem high to me and get there quick

Where have you plugged the pump into? should be straight into the PSU. If you are using a fan header then it might not been supplying enough voltage to start the pump.

i have a header for the pump (says so on the mobo) that its pushed in to also the pump has an rpm of 9620
