I'm looking to put together a triple monitor setup and so I want to get monitors that match in height and vertical resolution.

"Duh. Just get three of the same then."

Yes, that would be nice, except I want the central monitor to be a widescreen and the two either side to be 4:3. So, the question is: what size 4:3 monitors will match the height and resolution of 22" and 24" widescreen monitors?

if your looking at a 24" in the middle, then a 20" 5:4 would match it almost perfectly, your talking about .2 of an inch difference in the screen height

Cheers. So a 1920x1200 24" WS and two 1600x1200 20" monitors should work. Or are you being specific about the 5:4, meaning that the closest resolution match I would find would be a 1680x1050? I don't think I've ever seen a 24" at that res.

huh? no i mean a pair of 5:4 20" monitors would be almost the exact height of a 24" 16:10 widscreen, like the dell 2407 or the 24" ocuk DGM for example :)

Sure, but 1600x1200 is 4:3, not 5:4. 1280x1024 is 5:4. So, if you are specifically referring to 5:4 monitors, I would have to match the vertical res at 1024, which means a 1680x1050 WS.

Some number crunching gives the following vertical sizes (although I'm not convinced even LCDs offer exact matches to the geometry calcs):

24WS - 12.72"
22WS - 11.66"
20 4:3 - 12"
21 4:3 - 12.6"
21.2 4:3 - 12.72"
19 4:3 - 11.4"
19 5:4 - 11.87"

Which suggests that a 22" 1680x1050 would be best matched with 19" 1280x1024 monitors and a 24" 1920x1200 would be best matched with a 21" 1600x1200 or a 20" for a less pleasing fit.

Now to go hunt for 21" 1600x1200 monitors. I know Samsung do one, but it isn't cheap.
