matching print colours in indesign, photoshop etc

Ok this is probably a really obvious question but it’s just one of those things I don’t know how to do. What I want is my monitor to display colours as they would appear when printed or at least as close as possible. The programs I mainly use are Indesign and Photoshop and I am using Vista home premium 64, which seems to have some sort of set up for this but I am a bit confused by it.

As ever thaks for any help you can give.

Isn't the best way to get one of those devices which sits on your monitor and calibrates the colour for you? I'm not sure what they're called...

View > Proof Setup

That's for Photoshop, I'm guessing InDesign will be something similar.

Set everything to sRGB.
