Hey Guys. I am going to get the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2), and was wondering what would be a good fairly cheap motherboard that would go with this. Thanks guys oh one that would also go in the Thermlatake Tsunami CAse or the NZXT case at the bottom of the page of "Other" cases. Thanks guys.

Purpose? Overclocking? Features required?

We need more specifics before we can recommend anything. Personally, I think the DFI Ultra-D is the best (overclocking and features) and you won't go wrong an any nForce4 Ultra chipset board.

Why are you getting the x 3800 AM2?

As you have not purchased the system yet I would look at getting a conroe 6300 instead a far better faster chip

Why isn't there a hitself emoticon? :p - yeah my bad. Still, we do require the info as I described above.

And I agree with easyrider on this too ^^^ - 6300 + cheap mobo is far better.

Ok here we go. I wanted to get that processer or the one above it "AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.20GHz" becasue they are cheaper than the Intels and i am trying to keep on budget. I wasn't going to do any overclockng myself was just going to put it in. I want it to be a gaming machine really but to be fastish off the bat which is why i am going to choose one of them as i think i can do it for about £1000. Thanks guys.

The E6300 is superior to both the X2 4200 and 3800. And you can defintely include it in with everything and a decent clocking motherboard for a grand, believe me, i did it.

Really, scrap the AMD and get the Intel. I know it costs £25 more than the 3800+ and the same as the 4200+ but it is so far superior it justifies this expense.

Could you suggest a motherboard, cpu and ram setup that would be suitable then. No more than about £450 though as that about the price of my previous set up of those three oh could the mobo fit in a Thermlatake Tsunami Case or the NZXT case under "Others". Thanks i really appreciate it. Oh 2Gb of ram though.

Sorry i meant to say that £450 was my top price for the cpu, motherboard and ram combined for that i dont mind if its lower but i would like quite a decent processer for that money. Thanks again you are all very helpfull this is my first build so not that good with this.

You could easily get what you want for that. I mean, for example - E6400 (£150) + P5B Dlx (£140) + Geil 2GB DDR2 (£150) = ~£450. This will clock well, and meets all requirements. I won't recommend anything specifically but that is just an example.

Well yes, it is likely to overclock well. Nothing is guaranteed when overclocking but should you buy the right components, you increase your chances/make it easier to overclock.

If you don't know how to overclock, just choose a lower spec board with all the features you require.
