My mates just bought a netgear DG111GT (?) or something and im really starting to feel sorry for him. Every 3 or 4 minutes his line is dropping out on AOL instant messenger along with his internet etc. He cant access MSN, Steam or any other online service other than the internet and AOL IM. I know the firewall could be blocking the programs from connecting, but blocking MSN, never known a firewall do that?
All connections are via wireless, and apparantely the signal isnt that strong. Ive told them to try the PCs closer to the router, and they will test it soon i hope. Went round his last week to try and sort it but couldnt get access to the router as i didnt know the IP or the password.
Has anyone got any ideas what could be up with this? Could it be something simple like the MTU isnt set to 1400, or just a bad signal with a very resrictive firewall? Dont have any lne stats as i couldnt get to his router. Hes used the supplied USB modem for 2 years and its never dropped yet.
