Mates PC problems

His PC has been running fine for quite a few months now. Yesterday it started crashing out of games (5 mins of play). Today he switches it and theres green and red blobs all over the screen, moving and some stationary. This is artifacts? I got him to drop all his g/card settings to default and he says its much better. But obviously its only going to get worse.

Just wanted to run this by people to confirm the g/card is duff?

Maybe GFX RAM is borked, but if he was using too high a clock and now it's OK it may have just been that.

sounds like maybe he overclocked it too high without sufficient cooling.

Has he cleaned the fan/case/system lately, May just be a build up of dust tipping the card over.

It has not been overclocked, when I said returned to default, he had upped AI settings and all the normal stuff you can do with the ATi software.
He said it was quite dusty in the case, so I could get him to clean it. The fan was spinning on the g/card.

He just phoned and said its not ok, even on the default settings. Keeps rebooting and saying theres an ATI g/card error.

Oh i see. Yeah tell him to clean it first, then try a different set of drivers. If that still won't work then I believe his card may well and truly be fudged. Couldn't you also try his card on your system and see if you have the same symptoms?

Ok, will get him to clean, check drivers etc... and then see what happens....
