Hey guys, my house mates lappy has just started booting into recovery mode and wont boot into windows...

what happened was is he turned it off during POST and now it wont even boot past recovery even in Safe mode...

so far im letting him waste his battery and see if that works... but because it wont boot into windows even in safe mode, im thinking its something corrupted in windows... this means that a CMOS reset wont work but im thinking of trying to repair using the disk?

He is using Vista SP2

any ideas

Try booting from the Vista disk and entering the repair console. From here you can try performing a startup repair, system restore or launching a command prompt and running the system file checker (type: sfc /scannow).

Im surprised it didn't work even without having SP2 integrated  You could try grabbing a recovery disk which should work instead. See here. If you still have no joy then I would think about using a Linux Live CD such as Ubuntu to boot with, then grab any important files before doing a clean install. Hopefully it won't come to that.
