I am trying to work out the equivalent pixel counts of gaming at 60 fps at 4K compared to the vive at 90fps and SS

My calculation for 4K is 3840x2160x60 is 497664000

My understanding is vive native is

1.4 x 2160 x 1200 x 90 Is 32652900

So with 1.5 SS we have 1.5 x 1.4 x 2160 x 1200 is 489888000

So my understanding is if I can play a game at 60fps on my tv then that was lo be the same as 1.5 SS on the vive

Looking at getting the best performance from assets corsa

Is supersampling game specific? For instance the lab and the blu look great at 1.3, elite dangerous dosnt look as good at 1.3 not had chance to experiment yet to see if other settings look better although i did try 2.0 but it was a stutterfest.

At the moment it's global, but i have heard rumors that they will implement game specific, or at least a slider in steamvr so it can be quickly changed

I meant is every game rendered in the same resolution to start with? If not that would explain the difference in quality between games.

Supersampling increases the total pixels by the square of the multiplier because it applies to both width and height. So for example a multiplier of 1.5 increases the number of pixels by 2.25. That's why 4k has 4x the pixels of regular HD.

It's all a bit pointless anyway because there are other significant overheads such as having to draw the scene from two different perspectives. Realistically all you can do is play with the numbers until you find a reasonable compromise between image quality and performance.

I've settled @ 1.5 with my 1080, I found I could go up to 1.7/1.8 and stay at 90fps "most" of the time, however I've read lower frames than this can give serious sickness which I suffer from already so I intend to keep the frames at 90 no matter the game or heavy parts.

I'm upgrading specifically to take advantage of this.

Like the above poster, I want to set it at something slightly conservative so I don't have to worry to much about it. 1.3 with a 1070 seems reasonable?

I do mainly 1.3 with my 980ti but it depends on the game, elite 2.0, brookhaven 1.0(it does its own 1.4). Try and experiment which looks best.

Having a few random "grey screen" disconnect's with my headset. It'll go grey for around 3 seconds ingame and reconnect again, mostly experienced in on Brookhaven. Is there anything that cause's this I can't seem to put my fingure on it.

Had exactly the same last night, previous night no problems at all. Seemed to be a controller tracking problem, did notice the vive software popped up an update message when i first booted the pc so that cant be a coincidence. A quick Google suggested the camera is the culprit do you have yours set to on?

I know I'm going to WANT to set SS up nice and high, but what I want and what I can actually do are probably going to be two very different things. Still haven't got my headset out of the box it came in, but can't wait!
