Guys, I am really stuck on this one question for solving the simultaneous equations; I know there are some maths very clever people on here so I thought I would ask.

x-5y=7
3x+y=5

I have been trying this one question for going on two hours now and I'm starting to lose my sanity.

I thought that if I could rearrange the equations so that Y was the subject I could plot them on my graphics calculator and see the co-ordinate where the lines crossed and hopefully get the answer :)

I started off by rearranging 3x+y=5 and came up with y=5+3x

But I am stuck with rearranging the other equation and can only come up with the answer 5y=7-x Should it be y=(7-x)/5 ??

I am not sure, any help is greatly appreciated as its really getting to me now.

I dont really want the answer (yet :p ) just some pointers would be a real help.

Thanks

/CF
