maths question?

Hi all,
Question over some marking about loaded questions and overall result.

It is a 60%/40% weighting.

Marks were 54%/38% respectively.

I've worked it out to be overall 47.6%.

Is this correct?

Cheers. I'm questioning the overall mark of 39% because that is nothing like what I've worked out.

No problem. Yeah even without working it out you can see that 39% is incorrect as the final mark should be closer to the score in the section which is worth a higher percentage of the total.

Aren't 39% and 47% both so low it's basically just failure?

Yeah, that's what prompted me to check. I knew I was iffy on one but good on another but it is based on combination and 39% seemed low considering the 54% for essentially most of it. 40% as you all know is the pass mark for university stuff. I am really struggling against people who do it the night before after I've spent weeks on it! Still, that's just me venting because I'm clearly not understanding something the others are. It's the 1st year so doesn't count towards a degree so just passing is all I care about so I get onto placement.

Depends on the exam, surely. Chartered tax adviser exams have a pass mark of 50%. It wouldn’t surprise if some exams were even harder.

Cheers. Had it confirmed today that because I failed 1 section by 2% I failed the entire lot. Ah well. Busy summer...

That sucks. So you are going to have to resit? Are your resit results capped at 40%? It seems a little harsh to have to resit to improve your mark by 1 percent.
