Hi :) am looking to start a college course that starts in 10 days time and I need to pass my level 2 maths before then. I was the clown at the class at school and its like I have had to start from scratch !!

Was hoping I could post the questions which I am struggling with and you guys could show me the technique used for finding out the answer so i can learn how to work them out for my self.

" A snooker club with 420 members has several tables. The booking secretary analyses table usage and notes that the most active group ( 20% of the members) use the tables for 4/5 (fraction) of the available time"

For what percentage pf the time does the most active group use the tables ?

A 4%
B 40%
C 50%
D 80%

? :)

Thanks guys there is a second part to the question

" A snooker club with 420 members has several tables. The booking secretary analyses table usage and notes that the most active group ( 20% of the members) use the tables for 4/5 (fraction) of the available time"

How many members are there in the most active group ?

A 17
B 67
C 84
D 336

?

yeah it's 80%

all you do is 4/5 of 420, which gives you 336.

336/420 = 0.8 (80%)

:)

Would seem with your calculation it answers the second part of the question, above ^

Can you explain how you go about finding out 4/5 of 420 please ? so I can fully understand how you got there :)

Am sure for some this is to easy, but we all have good and bad strong points

Need help understanding how to work this question out, can someone explain the method used please, as if I was 6 years old lol ?

" This table shows the number of employes by gender for 3 years"

What is the ratio of Woman to men

Men = 275

Woman 225

"possible answers"

2:3

9:11

11:9

3:2

?????? :)

"A club committe makes 14 litres of lemon drinks for refreshments, they mix lemon concentrate to water with the ratio 2:5

How many litres of lemon concrentrate do they use ?"

2
3
4
5

I am stuggling to understand how you would work this out, is there a easy method you can describe ?

:)

" material for dressmaking is sold by the metre. The cost of 5 metres = £17.50

What would the cost of 8 metres be ?

£22.50

£28.00

£32.00

£29.00

I understand with this question I need to devide 5 by £17.50 then x 8 = £28 :)

I was unsure how to do the 5 devided by £17.50 with pen to paper though, as it doesnt seem to work via the way I have recently learnt

Is there some easy way to do it as the .50 confuses me a little, but am sure with some rule it would be easy ?

:)

Am a bit puzzled here, but am sure its quite obvious if someone could explain

One of my questions is basically showing a small box with measurements around it and a much larger box and asking how many smaller boxes can fit inside

I got the question wrong but am still confused even knowing what the right answer is!! I understand that I need to devide each L W H by each box but confused how 0.5m devided by 12cm = 4 ???

box 1
Lengh > 12cm
width > 20cm
Height > 5cm

Box 2
Lengh > 0.5m
Width > 0.4m
Height > 0.2m

answers = 4 , 2 , 4 then I need to 4 x 2 x 4 = 32

I just need help to understand how say 0.5m devided by 12cm = 4 or 0.4m devided by 20 = 2 ? how is that caculation done so I can work it out ?

I understand :) but my struggle would be pen to paper how to find out 28% divided by 15400 as am not to great at the technique used

I didnt attend school much when I was younger so things like this I wasnt taught, I work as a child care work so its not like I am thick but am trying to get to uni to do mental health nurse and have my maths exam I must pass today to get on the course. Had to learn all my maths I never learnt in school over the last 3 weeks!
