Just got to the fight scene with this evil woman, how the hell do you beat her? I keep getting pinned to the floor all the time. I'm usually dead within the first 10 seconds of entering the room.

This is the fight that ultimately helped me to come to the realization that Mass Effect isn't that good.

If you picked that planet first instead of the other choice, you're in for a hard time. The fight's harsh on low levels, and there's no way to go back and grind it back up. If you have a previous save, you should go back to that and grind a lot beforehand, or attempt the other planet first. It is extremely hard if you went straight for her, and I did it purely through trial and error - it must have taken me about 20 tries.

bugger :(, can't just hop back on my ship and come back later then :p

Can be frustrating but I have a fool proof strategy:

Immediately sprint right to the corner. From here she can't target you. <<<<< This is the most important bit of the whole fight!
Kill all those that attack you from where you came into the room and 2 that come down the stairs behind you.
Once all are dead creep up the stairs and run to next corner point. (Diagonal from where you came in)
Lean out and kill the snipers etc from the corner facing you.
Last lot. Go back up the stairs and there will be 3 or so enemies in the corner you first ran to. Slowly peek over and shoot there heads, use biotics etc.

Then you get to fight benezia. If you immediately lift her etc this is a piece of cake.

Sorry for the double post but...

This is one of the hardest fights in the game and forces you to learn how to use cover and shoot.

I really struggled with it the first time through and it put me off a bit. Second time, with better tactics and more skills even on hardcore (and later insanity) it was a doddle.

yes you can but it means backtracking a long way - basically the whole level - i've just had to do exactly that myself as i found the fight too hard at the level I was and i had saved just before going into the room she is in.

Gone off to find the lost scientist or something now will come back to the matriarch when i'm a bit higher

There's a platform under her room, go and fight all her minions from there, then fight her last.

Was easy enough for me =/
This is exactly what I did, was easy as pie.

Yeah, the game must suck because a boss is slightly challenging. :o

Also, I should probably add, I did pick that planet first on my first go at the game.

I ran to the right hand corner and killed everything that came my way, which wasn't easy at the level I did it at. Topping Benezia after all that though was really quite easy.

Can't say it made for much of a climatic moment though. But then again I did go there first, and I suspect that kinda messed up the natural flow of the story. If that's the case it smacks of iffy design.

Yep, I said the game sucks on the basis of one boss fight~

Where did I say that by the way? The myriad of flaws and issues leading up to this fight was abhorrent. But each to his own I guess.

Abhorrent? That's a bit harsh I think.

I also did that planet first, it was probably the toughest fight I experienced in the game.

Yup this part had me cursing like a banshee:p...in fact it got to the stage where i decided that i had enough and gave the rest of the game a miss. I read all the online game guides and still couldnt beat the bint lol.

Not a game i would recommend tbh, i guess i finally realised just utter crap RPG games are:p.

Bloody hell, it's not that hard! :p

I don't remember this bit being that hard

I guess it depends if you go there straight away, I hadn't done any side missions and went straight there from the citadel. I was a pretty low level and the first wave of Asari was kinda rough, I think 3 deaths and I got it beat.

was my first planet and was the only boss i died on. definately worth sticking out with though because its an excellent game!

The game sucked ass as far as im concerned...last time i listen to McDaniel:p....definitely not a fan of boring RPGS thats one thing ive learnt from Mass ****:D.
