Matrix Hd 7970 Problem

Hi all I've just bought a Matrix Hd 7970 from here and can't seem to get it to work. My Specs are as follows.

Intel core i5 3570k
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
8gb ddr3 ram
coolermaster gx 650w psu
Windows 7 64bit
1 Seagate tb HD
Zalman z9 case
The old card 2GB MSI Radeon HD 7850 Twin Frozr II
Asus VH242H 24" Widescreen LCD Multimedia Monitor - Black

Now that psu should have no problems running that card, and the card comes on once its plugged in I can see it lighting up. But I get no signal to the moniter no matter what cables I try, the old card works fine so I'm guessing I've got a faulty card. Unless you fine folks have any other ideas thanks.

I have a 7970 and i was getting no picture
what i had to do was update the bios and i think i had to do something were i turned of the normal display so it would run with my graphics card ill try remember what i done and post back

Have you updated the bios to the latest version? Gigabyte boards, especially the one you have, sometimes have a problem with new cards if running a older bios. Find out which revision your board is and go to Gigabytes website here. Select your revision from the top and then click on the type of download link, you are looking for Bios. Download the latest bios and extract it to a usb stick. Reboot the pc and select the bios flashing tool in the bios (quickflash on Gigabyte boards if i remember right) follow the instructions and update the bios. When done clear cmos and re-enter all your settings and hopefully your new card should work.

I have just received a matrix 7970 and have the same issue. I have updated the bios on my z87 g45 gaming but still no display. The card lights up and the buttons on the card work but nothing on the display in any of the ports.

It seems to be freezing on bios load as when I push the power button it shuts straight down.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Cheers

Ok just plugged the card into my second PCI-E 8x slot and it is working fine. So the card seems to be ok it just will not run on the 16x slot on my Z87 board.. ?

:confused::confused:

It will be fine in the lower slot albeit at 8x instead of 16x. If i remember right someone had the same problem last week on the same board and it was a add on card's driver that caused the problem.

Its right up against my psu in the second slot so one of the fans is restricted. I will have a play but if it won't run in the top slot it can go back.

There must be something that the bios is doing causing it. My reference 7970 works fine in the top slot but the matrix is having none of it ?

If I enable the integrated GPU it boots with the matrix in slot 1 but only displays through the onboard gpu I cannot get anything from the card at all. As soon as I set the bios to boot the PEG it freezes in loading the bios with no display.

Seeing as my old knackered reference 7970 works fine it must be this stupid matrix 7970 at fault. It can go back and be swapped for a different card as this is silly tbh.

Just set the slot to run pci-e gen 2 and it runs fine in the first slot ? It seems the card cannot run gen 3 on this board for some reason.

I'm confused.... ?

Phew I saw the title of this thread and thought, Oh no I've just bought the same card, I hope it works on my Motherboard. Then I read it was a problem with your particular board model. Fingers crossed I don't have any problems when I install my card in my board. Glad you get your problem sorted out mate :)

It's an MSI board issue. I have just tried the card in a gigabyte board and it runs fine.

Strangely though the card actually gets slightly better scores in my system running PCI-E 2.0 than on the Gigabyte board running PCI-E 3.0 with both Cpu's at 4.5Ghz ??
