Just read this from Digital Spy

The Bourne Identity star Matt Damon is apparently top in the running to play Captain Kirk in the latest Star Trek film.

The project will be directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams, who is supposedly keen to have Damon in the role.

The Sun also reports that actor William Shatner, who played the original Kirk, "gave his blessing".

While the plot of the movie is yet to be confirmed, rumours abound that it will feature Kirk and Spock during their time at the Starfleet Academy or the pairs first meeting aboard the Enterprise.

doh more remakes nothing wrong with the original :( does hollywood have to kill everything that was good back in its day............

BIIIIG if. He was good in the Bourne films. JJ Abrams can do great moments of action but he just can't string a real plot together imho. Alias went nuts. Lost has the potential to go nuts. MI3 was a high budget episode of Alias and all the tension was about getting some device and we never knew what the device was. It could have been a bag of typhoo tea. Like I said, he can do great moments. Lost/Alias had some ace cliff hangers and some cool action sequences. I just think that the execs are going "yeah and we'll do this and yeah this too, woooo cool" and yet they're adding all the wrong ingredients. They'll never be another Kirk. Its Shatner. The same for Spock, Bones, Scotty, everyone. I just don't feel like this is going to be a good film. I'd love to be proven wrong :)
 
I thought he'd already said he wasn't interested in the role about a month ago?

In fact I'm confident of it.. he didn't want to get stuck in 'piecemeal' acting roles, always wanting something new rather than constantly doing the same character over and over again.
 
Hes doing the 3rd bourne indentity film atm think its due for next year release....

I suppose afleck could do a spock hes had a good hair wig done, damon will need one especially if he wants to fill in kirk ;)
