Matte Paint - the way forward?

There is nothing stopping you adding protection.

In fact Swissvax make a range of products specifically designed for matte finishes.

Surely this will just give the likes of Renault and Corvette and excuse to make their car exteriors out of coloured acrylic? I seem to recall that stuff coming in every shade under the rainbow.

Who cares about protecting the paint?

The car is for my enjoyment not the next owners, I would rather my car look good for me instead of having a plastic bag shoved over it.

Matt looks ****.

Those with high end cars and living in harsh environments (50 deg heat, sand storms) go for this more than Corsa owners in the UK, for example.

I probably wouldnt do this either, but many do.

Only works on ridiculous hyper cars imho.

This is what I am talking about. Its only done on sports cars, luxury cruisers and some SUVs from what I have seen, and it doesnt look bad.

Aprilia offered matte paint as a factory colour way back in 2001. I believe they were the first mainstream motorcycle manufacturer to do so :-

It looked and still does, excellent. WD40 is apparently the choice product to clean it and keep it looking good. The only thing owners found though was any "touching up" of scratches or minor damage was an absolute nightmare to carry out so it blended in.
