Matt's Mission For Size

Unfortunately the good physios are few and far between. If that is what he's describing, I wonder if you have pronated/suppinated feet and this has caused your knees to travel side to side too much whilst running. Something to get looked in to at a running shop.

I also thought the last thing you want to be doing so soon is cardio, ESPECIALLY swimming. I've had a very similar injury to you previously, took me out of action for 6 months. Swimming was pure agony as the drag of the water caused the knee to twist.

Well at the moment I have been prescribed to do massages on each tear within the knee you can feel 3 times a day, which ****ing hurts but after does seem to ease it.

However everyone even the surgeon at the hospital said just not to stop moving it and to keep the muscles moving :S.

This post got me hard.

Could be something weird due to hitting the wall strangely during a turn or something?

kd

Could have been I suppose might have just slipped on the push off, don't know don't think there will be anyway of knowing.

Only thing I can think off is I just got a pair of new walking boots which I have had for only just 6days and then I had this pain develop :(, think that new boots could cause knee issues?

Most sensible response. Matutu should read carefully.

Read my original post. Supinated or Pronated feet are a very common issue, and running with non-supportive footwear can and often will lead to massive knee issues. Especially when distance is involved.

It doesn't even come on as a dull pain that gets worse and worse; when ligaments are involved, it tends to be a SNAP, damage done, months of rehab to follow.

This is the confusing part I never felt that Snap thats what the Physio was surprised by, anyway new day and looking at it from a new light lol, made sure to sleep on my back, and swam this morning and did twist lock turns, and now feels so much better, hardly no pain just at the maximum stretch I get abit.

Now i am in 2 minds weather to go and massage hard into the tears if there healing surely that would do more damage! anyway another booking with the physio today at 4pm so ill find out then.

Thanks for all the messages guys.

Go to a different physio bro. Ligament damage does not disappear after a week. Especially when continuing cardio. Especially just from doing some massages (can you even massage your ligaments?!).

And by snap I didn't mean a literal snap, just a sudden point where pain begins. For me, I fell ice skating, had a stiff knee (oo-er), and then drove to the cinema. When I got out the car, it was hurting a bit. When I got out the cinema, I could barely move it. When I woke up the next day, I was in pure agony.

Your injury is inconsistent with what you're describing and your rehabilitation is at best laughable. Get it seen to properly, get a second opinion, find out some facts, listen to people.

Or keep swimming and pretending your extensive ligament damage that supposedly exists just disappears :p

Ok second physio booked for later this evening! I am listening ha, just seem to be getting different advise from the medical advise I have sort.

I dont know what to say really, this morning it has improved I can get down the stairs now without having to literally keep my leg straight! I am on no pain relief either, they have all said there is nothing major wrong with my knee only 3 small niks/tears which have formed and my meniscus was stretched. This small things then equalled up to something which formed a lot of pain.

Keep you updated on the second opinion!

Just back from my second opinion.......

Same thing really except this was one did seem more thorough! 2 small niks on my Patella tendon, meniscus stretched and 2 small ligaments damaged in the base of the knee cap. He put a Ultrasound on it and you could actually see the damage to the main tendon. He asked if I have had a slip or slide on this leg, I cant remember it, however last week (1 day before the pain) I did a hike in Whitstable and it was very very icy! so it could be that.

His recommendations are no running, hard walking or anything which involves impact. I am allowed to swim however no other stroke that Crawl and Side stroke, no kick offs or tumble turns. He wants me to do 10mins on a cross trainer on lightest resistance everyday.

Also gave me 6 sets of stretches to do.

So very similar to the other view of the first Physio, however this one was in a very plush private hospital! even gave me snacks in the waiting room haha.

Oh also one thing he did find was a lot of issues seem to be in my hips!

It seems my "Activators"??? running down on the inside of my legs are extremly tight, which causes me to maybe walk like a duck? (his description) So has given me stretches to try and improve on this.

Guys, got dragged into having a Cholesterol test yesterday....... Girlfriend on a health kick etc.

My total Cholesterol was 4.85, and my HDL was 2.33, now I am slightly confused as the nurse was reading our results this morning and went oh the cholesterol is quite high and on the limit, but then went wow your HDL is 2.3! though and said the ratio is very very good.

So is this good or bad lol

The wonders of a second opinion Matt! This one seems much more thorough, also helping to highlight cause rather than just the problem. Really listen to the advice tho, the low resistance cross trainer sounds like the best to me.

Take it easy Matt!

Thanks mate it is on the mend! I got the formal private hospital report in yesterday.

It list thats I have torn the M.Vastus Medialis tendon. However was surprised to see and he did mention it as well that between my left and right leg this area of my quad is 50% larger on my right side! They did give me strengthening exercises for my left side, but im guessing single leg, leg extensions could be the way forward.
