Hey guys, I'm new here so I may as well introduce myself and get some feedback on my build ideas before I post away on my upcoming build which I'll start in the Project log forum.
My name is Brett, I'm 25 and this will be my second build. I'm an avid gamer (cliché I know). I actually moved from pc to ps4 then Xbox one these past 6 months, got bored of the average quality of games, fps drops and lack of addons etc so I decided to start a new build with Skylake out now..! (I was previously on team red :o)

Here are my current build 'blueprints'
Fractal Design Core 1000 (Just arrived, and I will be doing some modifications to it, e.g: Perspex sideplate, possibly a military switch to control some nice lighting etc)
Asus ROG Gene VIII Mobo
i7 6700k
Corsair h100i watercooler (currently being shipped)
16gb of Corsair dominators, probably 2400mhz
GTX 970 (I know its not THE latest and greatest but I was thinking I should get a med/high end card for now while I wait for 2016 to bring some shiney new GPUs)
PSU - Currently undecided, any suggestions would be nice
Storage Currently undecided. I was thinking of a small SSD to just hold the OS then a 500+GB SSD for everything else.

I think that's everything lol. Anyway, like I said I know the GPU isn't the greatest. But I don't want to buy a 980ti to replace it in 6+months if/when pascal GPUs come out.

Sorry for the ramble! Any suggestions and such, drop me a message or reply here. Cheers!

Hi and welcome.

Have a look at the R9 390 cards that are usually cheaper and come with 8GB of Vram rather than the 4GB (technically 3.5+0.5Gb) of the GTX970.

PSUs, EVGA do some fully modular 650W PSUs.

Get some faster RAM than 2400MHz, Skylake seems to love fast RAM and 3000Mhz kits are nothing for it.

Hey, thanks mate. I'll have a look. All I've been focused on were Nvidia cards. And cheers! But wouldn't it be best to go for a PSU 850+ for future proofing so to speak. In case I do upgrade or SLI? Can't remember what I had in my previous build >.<

P.s You'll have to excuse my grammar etc. I'm on my phone :)

SLi+Crossfire? then yeah, 850W will be plenty, EVGA G2 has a 10yr warranty and is made by Superflower, even has the "eco" mode so the fan can run silent at low temperatures.

Superflower Platinum 850W PSU is on offer and has the same features but better efficiency and less warranty.

Awesome. I've never had anything by EVGA but wanted to give them a try. I know my last PSU was an XFX though. Did the job but I found the modular cables were a bit excessive, so I ended up with more than I could deal with lol. I take it my best option is to get custom cables

you wont find this option with Superflower as there is a Patent on their connectors (that glow white) so nothing available off the shelf unless you get them custom made.

Chug said there's some black, white and red custom cables for SF PSUs due in the next few months, not sure if they're from SF or not, or whether said patent is no longer applicable.

If only there were purple or even purple and black ones! kinda wanted to go for a red/purple theme. I'll have a mooch through Google see what I can find anyway and check out the GPU and PSU you recommend. And about the 3000mhz ram, what about the latency. Or is it no that much of a deal, I'm sure 2400mhz is cas15. When I chose my ram for my last build I'm pretty sure it was cas7 lol bit of a jump.

Wow those are cheap! Thanks a lot for that mate, you just saved me a lot of money lol. And the 390 looks like a bargain! Shame its only 4k compatible through the Display port. I was going to use my 4k tv until 4k monitors refresh rate goes up and their price drops xD!
