Eclipse have done me up like a kipper. I recently moved and was advised to change from their 2mb connection to Maxdsl and do another 12 month contract to avoid paying a transfer fee.

I did so but now my download speeds are what you can expect from a 1 mb connection (well after the 10 day training period). My router synchs at over 4mb but I seemed to be capped. I have Tried emailing Eclipse but they are playing the old lost email game with me.

I am really peed off it took over a month to move my line (Eclipse/BT mess up) and it is still fubared. I must have phoned Eclipse about 40 times last month to sort the moving mess out.

Any ideas I have been connected now since the 26th May.

If you emailed them recently they may well have lost it as their servers screwed up due to multiple power failures/surges in Exeter and they've had to restore from an earlier backup after being offline for over 48hrs.

Have you tried the BT speedtester to see if it's a BT issue or Eclipse?

If you want to move I think you can migrate out without having to buy yourself out of the remaining months of the contract, you just need to pay the activation fee (afaik)

Tried the speedtester and it was 1095 kbs.

I had no contract with Eclipse it was monthly but they wanted 60 quid activation. wish I had paid it now and I could have told them to get lost.

As far as I know if you just pay them the £60 now they'll release you from the contract and you can migrate. Haven't been in the same situation myself but they don't seem to enforce the contract as hard as some other ISPs do.

Was the speedtester done using the bt test login? If it was it's 100% a BT issue but you need to tell Eclipse you've done these speedtests so they can look in to it, but unfortunately BT don't need to do anything as their minimum rate is 400kbps.

If you migrate it's unlikely you'll see the speeds improving though, assuming you were on the BT login as above.

edit: completely forgot about BRAS rates there, what does it say under "Current Line Rate" in your Eclipse Connection Manager? Sounds like you could be stuck on the 1mbps line rate, any idea if you've synced that low before?

I'm calling BT tomorrow about my max dsl, moved to it from 2mb and it should be at least 5.5mb but I get download speeds most of the time at less than what 512k would get, sometimes I get a nice bit of speed but lately this hasn't happened much.

I thought BT had stopped moving people over to MaxDSL because there had been so many problems like this with it?

They put the bulk regrade tool on hold. ISPs are still putting manual orders through.
That said, I wouldn't expect an official statement if/when any issues get fixed.
