Hi all.

I started this thread a while ago about me not being able to achieve my max line speed.

Tried a few things, but in the end the general consensus was that it was my old router that was limiting the maximum speed I could achieve. So I went and got a Netgear D834GT as that was highly recommended on here.

So I spent a little while setting it up and I still get the same 2mb speed :( (according to pipex I should be on 8mb).

Below is a image of a scrrenshot of speedtest and router stats:

This is with the latest version of the netgear firmware, not played with any 3rd party stuff yet.

Anything else I can try? :(

No, same speed regardless of OS or browser. Although one of the tests did give me a speed of 2.07mb. Does this rule out the possibility that pipex have limited me to a 2mb speed instead of the 8 I should have, or is it possible to get a freak 'burst' like this?

Also, reading up on the SNR value, it looks like mine is very low which could be causing issues, despite only living <250m from the exchange.

I understand with some firmware you can tweak the SNR value. Is this worth a shot or can you only tweak it by tiny amouns?

What was your download rate?

You can only tweak SNR on router with custom firmware like DGTeam, I use the firmware but havnt touched the SNR tweaking tool, i wouldnt bother if your already having issues, it wont resolve it.

How far are you from the exchange? do you suffer from packet loss? drops in connection? is this speed pretty constant throughout the day & night?

Here are my netgear speeds as a comparison so you can see the sort of line stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15423 kbps 1300 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.5 db 12.6 db
Noise Margin 1.3 db 5.7 db

Phone up ISP and get them to check your profile

Is it Tiscali LLU or BT Wholesale?

If it's BTW, could it be a stuck BRAS profile?

BT wholesale. Can't get LLU down here. Thanks for the link. I'll read into it a bit more later but that may be a possibility. The BT speedchecker reports the speed as 1825 kbps.

<250metres. No packet loss to my knowledge. Extremely rare to suffer drops in connection. Speed is also consistent. May drop by 0.2-0.4mb in speedtest but I don't really notice the drop.

I've been in contact with my ISP and they're looking into it.

Thanks for all your help so far!

I would most certainly go back to the ISP then, maybe a stuck profile or something.

Good luck :) If they try to pawn you off, dont let it go, give em stick :)

Maybe send them a few speed test results, line stat screenshots
