Hi Guys,

I am looking forward to Max Payne 3 and as I never finished the 2nd game (pc at the time died), I thought I would reinstall it and give it a go. However every time I start the game Im greeted with windows telling me its stopped working. I googled and it turns out there are lots of people with problems but I cant actually find a proper fix.

Anybody here had issues with it and managed to get it running?

Thanks

There's an awful lot of chat on the web about MP2 not working with Win 7. take a look at the Steam forums as I don't think there's a simple answer. There is some talk of getting hold of an older .exe but I couldn't find source.

Have you tried getting it from Steam for £5.99?

Andi.

I have played through the retail version of Max Payne 2 several times on Windows 7 so I know it can work.
Is this the old retail version or the Steam release?

If it is the old retail version:
Patch the game up to the latest update and apply a NO-CD patched EXE, the copy protection is too old for Win7.
Unfortunately we cannot discuss where to get the NO-CD patched EXE from.

Once you have finally got the game up and running you *may* need to use the MP sound fixer to get all sounds, I can't remember if I needed to use it on number two, definitely did for number one on Win7.

As a curious extra, Rockstar used a cracked EXE in the initial steam release!

It's very backwards that we need to use cracked EXEs on games we bought, the publishers should be thanking the crackers.

While I'm no fan of DRM, it was just a CD check bypass. The game was made in 2002, shouldn't you be happy it was supported to run on Vista/Win 7 several years later?
