Max Payne 3 - crashes on startup

I own retail - http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/member/omaeka (not pirate). Infact I bought it from here. :cool:

I haven't played the game in a few months and tried today and whenever it 'auto updates' it does this:

I've tried checking online for solutions but nothing, thanks!
 
I've deactivated my firewall and it still does the same. :(

I wish Rockstar had an actual forum, all the MP3 fansites are dead.
 
Try to run it as administrator, the game and steam (and every other .exe that it needs during install/activation) - it still uses it (steam) if i've understood right.
 
Mines retail which means no Steam, I've already done all of the .exe options including disabling visual themes and auto running as Admin, everytime it gets to about 10% when checking for updates and dies.

3 months not playing it and I'm really in the mood now and this... :(
 
I thought the game need steam in order to register and stuff like that. Anyway, as a last resort, maybe you can activated on Steam using the retail code and download that version.
 
Look for Rockstar Social Club install files in the folder location....should be some and install it because it can cause this.

There are retail versions, I've tried my key on Steam and nothing.

Nothing in my install folder about the Social Club. Still isn't working after reinstalling the Social Club.
