max ram i can use?

i just got a new pc
amd x2 quad core
6gb ram

but just upgraded to windows 7 and in system control panel it says 3.25gb useable

You're using a 32-bit version of W7. You need a 64-bit version to use all 6GB.

sounds like the problem alright - the W7 box comes with a 64- and 32- disc, so just install the 64 bit version. or torrent it, if that's your speed.
