Well, I ordered Sky broadband on thursday, I've gone with the unlimited package, 16mb and Unlimited download. £30 a month including sky TV, Bargain!

Anyways, During sign up, It said the max speed available on my line is 3mb, I still went with the package, As it's still fantastic even if my download speed is limited to 3mb.

What I'm asking, Is if there is any way to improve my line speed, and also is there a way of testing what my line is capable of online?

Obviously speedtest's won't work, as that's limited by what my current provider is giving me. Just 1mb.

My current setup, Is a strange one, Could some of these factors be slowing my max line speed.

My Modem is plugged into a second Line in my house, But the second line is just an extension of the primary line in my house.

Or is the max speed determined more by the area I am living in rather than the setup in my home?

I'd just like to get my speeds up to the best they could possibly be.

I'm all wired by the way, No wireless here.

If your looking to optimise your line stats and speed I'd suggest plugging your Sky router directly into your master telephone socket without the use of any telephone extension cables.

If need be your can either run a longer ethernet cable or take the wireless option - telephone extension cables seem to cause countless problems with Skys re branded routers :(

You can have a look here and it will give you rough idea as to your line capabilities.

Better still, look for the speed your modem's connected at and the value for SNR margin (AKA noise margin), and plug it in to the estimator in the sticky.

That's pretty awesome.

After inputting attenuation, Noise Margin and Sync speed, Its believe the Max line connection speed I will get is 8109kbps, And that my IP Profile after the 3 day stability period will be set to 7mpbp, Not bad considering I was expecting around 3mb.

Fingers crossed it's accurate :)

If your joining Sky Broadband on an LLU package you dont have to worry about a "3 day stability training period" That would only occur if you were on a non LLU (Connect) package with them.

Your line should automatically sync at the optimum speed given the profile set up within the exchange. If any changes are required then Sky's tier3 (CST) department can easily sort that out for you ;)
