What are the maximum temperature a GeForce 7800GTX 256MB can SAFELY go upto without causing damage?

sometimes mine goes upto 83C or so, like playing CSS, but usually around the high 70's to 80... is that fine, it idles around 50 to low 50s?
 
I'd say that those temps were fine. Mine idles at 48 and goes to about 75-80 when pushed :)
 
I don't have a 7800series card so can't say with any degree of certainty but the previous generation was supposed to be ok at up to about 120 deg C, if it is in any way similar I'd say that you should be ok at anywhere up to around 90-95 deg C before you really need to look at more elaborate cooling.
