MAX to Fixed Rate Line?

Hey guys,

I never used to be able to receive 2 MB fixed rate back in the day, and when we first got broadband we were originally put on a 2 MB card at the exchange for our 1 MB connection which almost made the connection unusable – constant re-syncs and hours of total downtime…

I’m currently on a flaky 2-2.5 MB MAX connection which likes to re-sync itself about 10-20 times a day – although BT say there’s nothing wrong with our line… But that’s another story.

All the availability checks I’ve done recently say that my line is capable of 2 MB now? Has anything change, do you think it’s now possible for me to receive a 2 MB fixed line :)

My stats with MAX:

Bitrate 3712
ATT 57dB
SNR 9.5dB

Cheers ;)

SW.

I thought as much :)

I just though something 'magical' might have happened to my line :D

Cheers,

SW.

The checker is only a best guess and as such can be way off sadly. What about your filters/hardware, you may be able to improve things slightly your end ?

We've tried it all mate :(

BT have said that there is a possible fault on the line - but they don't know where? They're words, not mine...

I guess I'm just going to have to hold on until 2009, when 21CN is rolled out on to my exchange :p

Cheers,

SW.

The SNR's fine for that line to be stable, so something's causing it to drop rapidly and cause it to resync.

Have you tried the master socket (taking off the front cover removes extension wiring)?

I had a bt openreach engineer out to my line on thursday, he found no fault as well.

I asked him about 21cn, all he said was that it would be easier for people to switch providers, just a few seconds on a computer, instead of people going in the exchange and swopping wires about. I dont think 21cn will improve your line at all? its just bt installing adsl2+ stuff in exchanges or am i wrong.

Will everybody in the UK get a 24Mbit/s broadband service?
BT Wholesale is planning to launch an up to 24Mbit/s wholesale next generation broadband services in January 2008. Where end users' existing broadband lines have been migrated to 21CN or they are connected to a 21CN broadband-enabled exchange, service providers will be able to choose to supply end users with products based on these next generation broadband services. That said the laws of physics are not going to change and distance from the exchange and other factors will affect a customer's broadband speed.

Don't think you are. 21CN will still offer bog standard ADSL from the start, iirc. Your voice services will move onto a packet switched (rather than circuit switched) network though. The whole thing will be transparent to the end user.
