I need to know the maximum allowed weight in a wall mounted (over head) 19" enclosure according to British Standards. The rack needs to be opened from the rear as well as the front and must have fans installed, not sure if this has any bearing on it.

Any Guru's able to offer advise please?

For clarity:
Do you mean supported by the cabinet itself, or the ceiling mount required to support it?

What are the dimensions of the rack? 600mm deep? 800mm deep? How many U?

There aren't any British Standards governing the weight for a wall mounted rack in the same way that there aren't any for a wall mounted shelf for example.

You may be able find some guidance on mounting the racks based on the type of wall or supporting structure and the type of fixings being used. The rack manufacturer themselves may provide some guidance with their product stating a max 'rated' weight. Exceeding that rate knowingly might be a Health and Safety concern.

The long and the short is, depends on the exact make/model of rack and how you affix it. One example of a 12u rack I have just googled suggests a maximum load of 159kg for example, but another 12u has only been tested to 100kg.

One thing to bear in mind, rear door or 'swing out' cabs have very low tested weight limits compared to fixed frame cabs with only frontal access. Some that I can see in my catalogue are as low as 40kg

+1

Stick it up with BluTak and it's not going to hold much. Use some big, bad Rawlbolts and it's going to cope with a lot more.

Cheers guys. Can you get side mount ones? I need access to the back, as a couple of servers will be going in.

Kit is:
2x servers
1x router
1x switch
+ ancils.

Weight will be no more than 70KG.

I'd check the depth of the servers, and include the power cables, i've got some 600m cabs and can't get dell rackmount servers in them.

I've got one 600mm 15u cab which has 6x procurve 1u switches, and patch panels, it's fastened to the wall, concrete or brick, with rawlbowlts and I can swing from it and i'm 13 stone! Got one on a plasterboard stud wall that has 2 screws into the studs and that doesn't take much weight at all!
