Maxbook not starting up

I have a 2006 Macbook which i was using last night when it restarted, for which I assume was heat issues, when I to turn it back on it doesn't load. It makes the Apple noise and then stays on the blue screen.

What can i try?

Perhaps an apple might do the trick?

Shall I slice it and put it in the disc drive?

Try booting from your install disk, open disk utility and then select your drive and click 'Repair permissions' and once that is finished 'Repair disk'.

I tried doing that but it does the same thing.

Before I tried your suggestion I left it on its blue screen for a while and it started flashing a picture of a folder with a question mark in it. This suggests to me it's a dead hard drive. I hope not

Why doesn't the OSX install disc do anything though?
