maxDSL confusion

Hi,

I may quite well be being stupid and missed something obvious !

I'm currently on 2Mb/s with btinternet but the speed limit on "My Account" says up to 8Mb/s - this is shown on my account homepage.

My question is, do I have to request the faster speed (even though there is no higher cost?) or do they do it automatically? I'm certainly not seeing > 2Mb/s when downloading.

I don't think it's explained clearly at all.

Thanks. This is the same lack of clarity I went through when I went from 512 to 2Mb/s. All the BT pages were so unclear and sometimes even contradictory. I even just tried to register my interest in a regrade but had to tick a box to agree to T&C. What T&C - I only wanted info... Really puts me off.

I suppose faster would be nicer but I rarely need it. I think I'll sleep on it !
