Maximising to both monitors?

I have 2 monitors and I was wondering if there's an easy way to maximise windows to go across both monitors. I don't want it all the time but for certain programes like LaTeX and R it would be useful. I know Ultramon adds a button that will do this but I would ideally like a free program that will do it if that's the easiest way to do it. I'm running Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

Only know of Ultramon and DisplayFusion (better) unfortunately. Again both are payware.

I have just downloaded DisplayFusion and the free version has the ability to add a button to the title bar to do this
