Hi

My wife has just a Mac book pro (something like that) and uses Safari to connect to the internet - how do you get the internet window to maximise to the whole sreen?

Thanks for nay help

Drag the bottom corner of the window to resize. The green button on the titlebar tries to be smart and make the window as big as it needs to be to see everything, without wasting any space on top of that.

(IMO the green button is is rather poor because its behaviour is inconsistent even between Apple's own apps. See Safari vs. TextEdit vs iTunes)

I thought the green (if you don't reset them to grey :p) button was supposed to switch between 2 sizes that you determine. I have a browsing width (full screen-ish) and a development width (800px) for Safari and I use the green button to alternate between the 2. Always works well for me.

The idea behind the green button is to fit the window to the size of the content. Mac purists (ie. people who aren't used to Windows) would say it's the best way of doing things since you don't have a window bigger than you need it.

Of course this is useful if you're on a large displays - you don't need a full screen window for the Google homepage :p

Saying that, as said before, it's incredibly inconsistent. Even using it in Safari annoyed me since some pages (like this forum for example) re-arrange themselves to make best use of your window size. Widescreen was invented for a reason :D

TBH it just makes me feel consistently lost. Especially on a 24" screen where you may have a few things open. Mac seem to absolutely love this idea of small overlapping windows :S

You can use Spaces to sort them all out (press F8 if you don't know what I'm on about) - I use this when I'm working on an essay and have safari, itunes, pages, preview etc all open. Very useful and switching between spaces is fast.

Also F9 will show you all your open windows on your screen (or in the current space) and allow you to select which one you want at the front.
