Maximum Bang for Buck

Hi everyone, im going to be putting together a new PC soon for a family member, they wont be doing too much on it but may play the odd game, i was just wondering if anyone would be able to spec me the absolute maximum bang for buck system available around now that is preferably under £300, no need for a monitor or keyboard or anything like that. I dont mind having to overclock the hell out of it as well, in fact that would be a plus :p

If you don't have an OS for it, I recommend using Windows 7 64 bit beta.
If you need the system to include OS I think you need to increase you budget or go down the integrated graphics route *Shudders*
 
I'd go for the E5200, or even a E2200 combo over the AMD X2 5000 even. I have built both one for my wife (E2200) and one for my pops (X2 5000). All other specs were identical besides boards which both motherboards were cheap $50 boards with no features. The E2200 is much snappier. My dads amd setup is slower by far in doing anything like iexplorer. The best way I can describe it is, on the E2200 you click on iexplorer and it starts to open instantly. On the amd you click iexplorer and there is a hesitation before the program starts. Once it does pop up the window it moves fast but like I said the E2200 is much snappier. Amd is cheaper though. If your family member is older they probably won't care about the extra 2 seconds it takes the amd to respond. If they are younger and plan on doing homework and such on this machine then do them a solid by going intel. They won't know it, but they will be glad you did.
 
thanks for the replies so far guys, sorry i forgot to mention that i dont need an OS, i have a few vista keys lying around unused so that shouldnt be a problem

the intel spec looks pretty good, although i agree with ninja i may well go for an e2200 and overclock it, woulld i need to splash out on an expensive board to do the job or is it just the chipset that really matters?

in terms of graphics it really doesnt have to be much, lol, just anything better than onboard, they wont be playing the latest games but may pick up some older 3d titles
