Just wondering what the fastest CPU is that I can put into my Dell Vostro laptop?

I've got a Vostro 1500 that is currently running a t7300.. Just interested in case I get bored in the future! CPUZ says the chipset in it is a PM965.

Thanks,
Andy

i'd personaly leave it as it is, more hastle than it's worth, laptop are cheap enough, and if you do upgrade wuld the cooling in there be enough to cool a more powerful CPU

I wouldnt touch it either, ive known Dells (although desktops) fall over after upgrading the RAM

never thought u could unplug a cpu on a surface mount laptop board!

Didn't realise they were surface mounted.. Assumed they were like normal ones in sockets..

Pfft.. Upgrading things is fun! Plus I do a lot of gaming on this thing and as I can't overclock it I might as well stick a new CPU in when it starts to struggle.

I've already upped the hd in mine to a 320gb 7200RPM drive, the ram to 4GB.. Only thing left to change is the CPU!

I'd go for it, Dells are usually a piece of cake to take apart. Like everything just check and check again...

T7700 would net you a 400mhz increase and I doubt it'd sell for much.
With the latest bios I wonder if you could get any of the T8--- or T9---'s in? What chipset do the latest Vostro's have?

Edit: What do you think of the 320gb 7200rpm? Western Digital? I was thinking of going for one of those myself as my 80gig 7200rpm is far too limited on space and has a poor amount of cache. :(

I've found that the WD drive is loads quicker than the 5200 160GB drive that was in it before. Loading and saving in apps is faster, getting into Windows seems quicker and loading maps on CSS and TF2 is faster. If I'm copying large files to and from my laptop it doesn't seem to bog down the rest of the system as much either. Well worth the money in my opinion.

The chipset in the Vostro is the PM965, running a FSB of 800. I figured one of the higher T7 series would work, but was more interest in one of the T8 or 9! :)
