Hi guys

So I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card as my current HD5570 is really starting to bottleneck my PC. I am interested in the aforementioned card as it looks as though it supports a lot of monitors. However I have noticed in the past that sometimes, not all ports can be used at once. So, some questions.
  • Can I run eyefinity with 2 DVIs and a displayport (or 2 displayports and a DVI) and run another monitor (a tv) from hdmi at the same time? (total 4 displays)
  • Can I run the previous setup and another monitor as well, populating all 5 outputs? (3 of the dvi/dp ports would be eyefinity, the other would be auxiliary and the hdmi would be a tv)
Thanks guys. ;)

An example of the 7870 core edition
(a supposedly 'competitor' link was here, but since OC don't even sell it, there's no 'competition')

All 7870s can do up to 6 displays, but it depends on what the manufacturer has chosen for the display outputs. As for the XFX you was looking at, the first two monitors can go in either DVI + DVI or DVI + HDMI, the limit is basically two digital/analogue signals. The 3rd monitor and above will need to be on the Displayport (5th and 6th will need to be daisychained). I take it this is for games, hence why you're upgrading from the 5570? Since some 5570s can do 3 monitors, providing they have a Displayport.

I would remove that competitor link asap.

Meh this is the problem with forums provided by a company that sells the items you're asking about
(even though in this case i would argue that there is no competition as overclockers don't even sell the item, but i won't argue as I'm out of coffee and I'm too tired to get mad)

Regardless, I would avoid XFX anyway, they have such noisy coolers... Gigabyte or MSI will be better choices due to their RMA services.

Overclockers sell graphics cards dont they

That competitors main business is selling computers and computer components is it not? so how the hell is that not classed as a competitor

Concur, My XFX 7970 black edition ref is like a leaf blower. But I have just ordered the after market Arctic Accelero from OCuk, just waiting for stock replenishment.

The noise man, anything about 40% fan speed gets to the point where all my gaming friends can hear the thing. I have been asked so many times "do you live near an airport" ;)

Great card though, its over a year old and i have yet to experience any problem. hardware and software wise.

ok leaving the 'competition' rant aside:
After a nose around I have seen this 7850
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-011-VX
and it looks pretty nice. However it's not a brand I know of too well, so could anyone vouch for (or advise against) this card and it's manufacturer.
Also, can it do the things I mentioned in my OP? I see on the box it will support 4 screens, but I want to check with you lot first.
Thanks

Don't get xfx they suck big time.

I was refused warranty on a 5 week old card last year and just last week my friend was refused warranty on his psu.

+1, just remember the 3rd/4th screen will need to be connected to the Displayport.

This should be ok. The dell monitors that I want to eyefinity with have DVI/VGA/DP inputs, so i'll use the DVI and both the mDP ports for that, and HDMI for the television.
Thanks for your advice.

Youtubing unboxing vids for it shows that it only comes with a 6 pin adapter and a crossfire bridge. Guess you have to buy the HDMI cable and mDP to DP adapters seperately.
