Guys, can you help?
I've built a new system recently.

Max II Formula
E8500
4GB Corsair 8500
GTX 260
Vista 64

As usual, installed OS, then graphics driver, then chipset and soundcard drivers etc. Went through the ASUS disc, installing all the ASUS software that came with it.

All was sweet, running at stock I was happy, no need to OC just yet.
Then the other day, decided to start and see how far I could push it, until I realised I cant alter anything in the BIOS tweak.

When I run CPU-Z, my cpu speed fluctuates from 1999mhz to stock level of 3.16ghz along with the multiplier from 6 to 9.5.

Because of this I can't alter anything in the BIOS.

Is it the EPU-6 that causing it?
I thought so and uninstalled it. No joy, still the same.
Did a search here and there and read others with the same problem solved it by reinstalling the OS.
So I reinstalled my OS.. No joy, still the same. CPU speed still fluctuates.
I've even flashed my BIOS with the old 1307, still no joy.

What the **** is going on?
Anyone have any idea?

could be, speed step is another one that could be casuing the problem, but than if it don't crash or hang than its fine

CPU speed is almost certainly fluctuating because of Speedstep/C1E/EIST.

Do not install the EPU-6 if you're going to overclock.

Interesting, I wished I'd done more research before installing it.

So how do I get rid of EPU-6 completely? As far as I'm concerned, I've done all I can to get rid of it, but I'm still seeing it's effects.

Also, how do I disable speedstep / C1E / EIST ?

Thanks fella's

I've diasabled speed step and C1E. CPU speed is running how it should now, no fluctuations.
Thanks everyone.
I'll have a crack at OC'ing it tonight.
