Maxtor DiamondMax 10 + setting ATA100

I have a 160gig DiamondMax 10 ATA133 hard disk I wish to use in an external enclosure

However the USB enclosure is having real problems and its basically unusable.

Now I want to test if its the ATA133 thats the problem so I would like to reduce the speed to ATA100, however I cannot find a jumper or utility from Maxtor to achieve this.

Any ideas people?

On other hard disks I've owned such as Samsung there is a simple DOS utility you can run to set the interface rate...

I have a similar problem with a raid card, its using too high a mode and getting 5 mb a second.

Im just going to try turning off smart but I cant a way for windows to force a mode on the raid card
