Maxwell Mobile (Nvidia 860M)

Thanks. Did a little digging my self on google and after a simple search the specs for the 880M can be found although they are rumoured at the minute. Sound good though!!

Yeah I couldn't find out whether 880M was a rebadge or if it is a true Maxwell core.

My Samsung Q330 with its lowly 320M is needing replaced :D

I dont think it is a Maxwell, i dont think any of the 800 series is Maxwell to be honest. From what i was reading Nvidia were getting aggro again for another "rebadge and boost the speed" type affair. 10-15% from the 780M to the 880M though so not too bad (if the figures are correct).
Yea i have a 540M and its now starting to fail on me as I let it get waaaay to hot in a hot and dusty country a while back. Think it started to melt a little bit.... :)

Nothing like a quick strip down and clean in tools stores to get rid of the sand and dust :) a helpful techy should have had plenty of compressed air at hand.

To be honest I need to make more tech friends!! How much does a strip down and clean job cost? and how about throwing in re-pasting the cpu/gpu with thermal paste?

A couple cans of beer should see most techies do the job, as longs as they have some thermal paste.

Most kit l looked at was done for free as most Mechs tend to hit laptops with hammers when they get slow :) and to be fair no beer allowed.

The more I see about this 860M GPU, the more I think that it is going to pretty much revolutionise the budget/mid-range laptop market in terms of what their gaming capability will be.

It's TDP is so low that even 13" laptops could get this inside them, and I'm pretty damn sure that the 860M or similar part from the true Maxwell family will be in the next line of Macbooks, which should also push down prices a little.

Finally, some progress in the mobile GPU market! :)

I really want to make sure I either get the Maxwell 860M and not the Kelper one or maybe just go for an 870M.

Like the look of the Gigabyte refresh ones

Not many options for the 860m ATM. Was hoping gigabyte v2 of their p35k range would be out. I like MSi but those ones they've got now are too chunky and from what I hear the cooling isn't great considering its size.

Much I have seen and heard, professional review and user feedack, suggests that Gigabytes build quality is really less than premium. Personally I wouldn't buy one.

I've got an XMG P304 coming next week with the Maxwell 860M in - it will be interesting to see how it compares to the GTX 670 in my desktop!

Easy solution, compare a GTX750Ti (basically a 860m overclocked) to a GTX670... The latter is noticably faster.

Now a GTX780M @ 980/6000 on the other hand.... :p

Have you not seen the GS60 / GS70?

At 4cm that's quite thick, the gigabyte is half that.

The chassis must be related to my last gaming laptop, it looks very similar, and that was hopeless at keeping cool as well.

Was a clevo.

I thought they had it sorted with a revision? Either way the gb was an example of what I'm looking for, I'd go any make really, depending on price and spec.
