Well it's that time of the year again, with our May Ball this coming Friday. I've never worn a tux (don't want to be the 500th person wearing a Burtons-hired suit) and I've always gone with something a little bit different - first year a white\creme suit, second year waistcoat and trilby.

Now I'm trying to think of what to wear for my third and final May Ball. I could just go with a normal suit with 2 to choose from but I'd like to see what creative ideas people can come up with. So far I've been suggested:

Backwards Man (suit worn the wrong way)
Half\Half Man (2 different cheapo suits sewn together)
Paint Suit Man (wear boxers and paint a suit on with body paints)

Preferably they need to have some sort of formal basis so I don't get refused admission (so no gorilla suits). Go crazy

Does the ball have a theme at all? Gangster style suit. Maybe Army/Navy/RAF suits? Kilt if Scottish? A few acquaintances wore some sort of military suits to a uni ball last summer - genuine ones - they trained for them.

Well, it's got a rough theme of Las Vegas..mainly because there's going to be a small and most probably crap casino there. I guess that puts pimp on the cards..

Surely if its formal and you are worried about being refused, then everything you have already suggested yourself is off the cards?

Women are the only ones who get to really have fun with what they where to a ball. Men either conform or just look out of place in something different.

Have you always been an attention seeker? Your mummy refused you her nipple one too many times, didn't she?

What does wanting to wear something different have to do with being an attention seeker? I don't want attention, I just want something to look back on myself and remember doing\wearing rather than a hired outfit or something I'd wear to an interview.

Amazing that many people don't own their own dinner suits.

I'm 21 - I don't get invited to many gala dinners just yet.

Invest in a decent dinner jacket/suit then?
You could buy a nice one which would look great and you could use forever (provided you don't change too much). Much better and more practical for the future than wearing some ridiculous looking suit concoction that makes you look really out of place, and no doubt in a few years you will look back at the photos and be like "What was I thinking?"

Wear an antique suit, like what Nelson or other national heroes used to wear. That means you can use a pimp cane and wear a bicorne or tricorne hat :D

Oh and you can take advantage of using a telescope ;)
