Now then, from what I've read online I might be in the clear. It was a late night earlier week (1am ish).

I was going down the road at about 30 and came across some knob in a corsa who kept braking for no reason, so I checked it was clear on the other side of the road and proceeded to overtake. Then I realised there where speed cameras just there.

I think I got back to the correct side of the road right near where the petrol station is and I didn't see any flash from the camera so perhaps they weren't on or in use or out of film (I dunno).

Can anyone confirm how these Gatso cameras work, like I know they use the markings on the road (which weren't very clear) but do you literally have to cover the whole section of the lines before the camera knows if you are speeding or not? Or can it use those lines for tracking you on the other side of the road as well?

Really hoping I don't get a NIP letter in the post, and if I did what is the deal? How long do I wait before I know that I am in the clear and if I do get done for it whats the damage? Points and a fine, does it make much difference to insurance etc?

What do you guys think?

If you weren't on the markings you should be alright. Morons in my hometown would drive in the other lane over the crest of a hill to avoid the speed camera on it.

If those arrows are accurate, you avoided the speed camera. The lines on the road are used to calculate your speed, you didn't go over the lines.

Anyhow, it's a 14 day wait to see if you're in the clear.

You could also check out the pepipoo forums.

They'd normally have lines on both sides of the road to catch people who are on the wrong side of the road. Not sure whether tha markings are required to make the photo evidence valid.

If you didn't see an obvious double flash then you probable got away with it.

I'm pretty sure I got caught by that same camera about 10 minutes after picking up my car from a guy in Dewsbury. Do you have a street view of the picture?

Anyway, West Yorkshire police allowed me to go on a speed awareness course for a bargain sum of £80 instead of getting any points. Is it your first offence?

Gatso's are 24/7 where they have cameras fitted, tbh would wait and see if a NIP arrives and not worry in the meantime.

If it does, say fair cop guv and go for the speed awareness course if offered. ;)

It looks like driving on the other side of the road to avoid the camera is the norm judging by Google StreetView :)

Nah he's queue jumping.

At the lights the lane splits into two, then immediately joins back together again. Most don't bother using the second lane, as they know they will have to wait for somebody to let them back in again, and it only moves them a few cars up the traffic.

But some just don't care and upon seeing a line of stationary traffic, just overtake it to push to the front of the queue for the lights in the 2nd lane.

I only really overtake is if there is only 1 car in front doing ridiculously slow speed under the speed limit.

i.e. 35 in 60, and I am not talking about twisty country lanes, i am talking about seeing a 3 quarter mile dead straight road, a NSL sign right before it, and the roads opens up and he stays at 35mph.....annoys the crap out of me.

If there are like a line of traffic and somewhere down there is a car holding up the queue, and I know I am like 10 miles from my destination. No point jumping a few cars, I only end up getting there at most 3 minutes earlier or something. Not worth the hassle/risk.
