Basically I've been wanting to flog the car for a while now. Advertised it several times for a few months but not really had any real interest.

It's an 08 530D, 83,000 miles 3 owners, service history etc. Recently had brakes disc and pads all round as part of a big service.

Currently it's advertised at £5,800. Which compared to others online seems pretty fair. WBAC have given a guide quote online of £5250. I know that's probably no where near what the actual offer would be but may not hurt to try? What sort of things do they knock you down on? It's in good condition Imo.

Only doing it to pay off a loan and pick up a run about as tbh I go to and from work, tiny journeys I don't need this car.

My opinion is I guess it can't hurt to take it over just want to know what to expect when I get there :D

That tiny scratch on your bumper, thats 250 off the valuation etc ad infinitium

This is my thinking, pretty sure each wheel has a small scuff too so I probably owe them money by the time I leave? ;)

I dunno just a thought, don't want to give it away just wondered if anyone had any real experiance with them here, how long the appointment takes etc. Happy to try it if it quick and just say no if it's a joke :D

From what I read you're better off putting any damage in on the online estimate rather than going there and letting them knock you down for everything.

Can't hurt to try, if you give you a figure you're happy with to get rid of the sometimes hassle of selling a car privately, then go for it.

As the guy above says, just state any minimal damage so they don't hammer you when you turn up.

Where have you advertised your car? I always find eBay the best on a classified ad £15 for 28 days or you have AT, Gumtree, etc. Screw Wbac they are a rip off. I’ve sold every car i have owned private and in the case of my last 2 cars they were both for near enough 1k more than what wbac offered me so by not selling to them cowboys I basically saved myself 2k in the last 2 years

Why does offering trade money for cars sold into the trade make them 'cowboys'?

I’d amend the price on your advert to say £4500 / £4999, no offers, frankly I’d be surprised if WBAC give you any more after they’ve found every blemish they can.

This’ll make it one of the cheaper ones on offer and should get a lot more interest.

If the price is appealing enough you’ll have no problem shifting it, your current price reflects the lack of interest imo.

Yea maybe true, I've reduced the price several times and tbh arou d here you can't find one close to the mileage etc of mine for that money but I agree lowering it would probably guarantee a quick sale. If WBAC offered 4800 I would probably take it at this point but I dont really want to give it away. But weighing it up against the hassle of selling it may be a fair bet, not too sure

They are sadly incredibly spec sensitive even as they age - yours is an SE with no satnav.

I remember years ago (At least 6?) we had trouble selling my Dads 2007 525i - in the end it went for about £7k despite being only about 4-5 years old at the time because again, it was an SE, no nav.

Yea I can understand That, didn't even cross my mind when I bought the thing ha!

WBAC did ask sat nav or not as one of the first questions so that price I guess is assuming it doesn't have one. Didn't realise you could put detailed info in until the chap above mentioned it.

It has usual bonnet chips, which has brought it down to 5,100. The options for wheel scuff are a bit confusing but one option seems to reduce it by 50 per wheel I guess but I'd need to have a look round the car

Not sure if it's best to just leave it all blank and see what happens or try and be really specific now before I go in. Surely some assumptions could be made, it's 10 years old. But I bet they don't take much into consideration like new brakes and tyres recently etc

You need to be as critical as you can before going in or you're going to be really quite disappointed.

Each item has a standard value associated with it and unless you know what their price *should* be you have no idea whether they're picking up on items that don't really exist or not.

They could also re start the valuation from a "today" start point that varies with the one you have too.

All of the above a nonsense of course but I've sold a car to them and whilst it was really easy enough and got what I expected for the car I had to remind them of their own valuation as the system attempted to start deducting from a lower point.

The person you dead with very much just plugs details into a system so don't expect too much from them in way of pragmatic adjustment

Appreciate this input based on your experiance with them, thanks! I'll have a look over the car and see if I can get an accurate value before going in if it's still worth it after doing so!

They claim the quotation lasts 7days

Obviously it’s not the same experience for everyone but each time I have got a price check on my cars with them it’s been a few hundred below trade in and that’s before you even turn up for them to look over it and knock even more money off for every little blemish. It’s happened to quite a few friends aswell some of the offers are laughable. Don’t see why anyone would use them unless it’s to shift a knackered car that’s about to fail.

It will but make sure you start from the same quote you have already got and add damage etc - then be certain what you've added to it and the final value.

Be harsh but not to a stupid extent - they will look for minor dents and will notice if a panel is chipped so be honest about these, but that miniscule deflection in one door you can only see from a certain angle just forget about it.
