I've had a sudden revival of interest in 3D art/animation and Im after some guides. I have some experience with 3DS Max from uni about 8 years ago but it was all self taught and I'm sure there's some really fundamental stuff I never knew.

I've decided to start from scratch and try and learn Maya from the beginning, so what I'm after is a really good and preferably free series of tutorials (video would be perfect but its all good) that will take me from utter novice to somewhere I can start to think about following some slightly more advanced guides in things like character creation. Any other sites or resources that you think would help would be welcome too.

Thanks, that's exactly the type of thing I'm after, $80 Isn't too bad. I'm going to stay clear of Max for a while, I think this might be easier if I start from scratch rather than have to unlearn my bad habits at the same time.

If you go to the product page for the DVD you can watch the first 2 hours of tutorials for free. I'm about an hour in at the moment and so far they are great, not at all stale and dull like a lot of tuition videos. I saw this mentioned elsewhere which looks like a good one too and a little more up to date although about 1/10th the size. Very tempted to buy the rest of that 3dbuzz one though, it seems old but maya appears to have changed very little in that time.
