Maybe it's me - blu ray players and 4k tv

Hi all

I'm scratching my head, trying not to just buy a new HD Blu Ray player...

I have a Samsung 6 series 4k TV which works great, and my Roku, HTPC and Fire Box all work fine. However when I try my two admittedly old blu ray players the 1920x1080 signal is detected but the screen is blank. I understand this might be something to do with HDMI handshaking....so.....

I've updated to latest firmware on both players on a 1080 tv which works fine
I've tried every combo of cable and input on the tv

Anything else left to try?

Players are Phillips BDP5000 (ancient) and Samsung BD-F5500

Cable?
Not sure but don`t you need a higher spec cable for a 4K signal? :confused:

I've used all 3 cables I use on that TV, including one I use for the HTPC which plays 4K video and desktop

eta - the bluray players output 1080p which is at least detected - the label that pops up when you select the relevent HDMI source says 1080p

Do you have any other display to plug the players into to see if they work?

Yes, they work fine on a 1080p plasma - I used it to upgrade the firmware on both just today

Just because its Samsung I would stick with that BD player (just to make testing a little simpler) - wondering if you can reset to factory settings on the 1080p screen and then plug it into the Samsung TV?

I reckon there is something in the picture settings getting mucked up- I would also be tempted to use one of the non 4k HDMI inputs on your 6 series tv (like mine the 4k may be switchable between the inputs)
