Hi all,

I have a minor problem with my mayhem's x1 UV purple fluid where it doesn't seem to glow under uv light.

I don't recall it ever glowing very well, I am just using a UV led strip which isn't the strongest light but a highlighter pen glows under its light.

Is there a way to test the fluid or do I need a specific light to make it glow?

The UV led strip is uva range 395 to 405

Is it new fluid or have you been using it for a while?
I can not say specifically for Mayhems, but last time I used (some other brand) UV fuel, it lost its glowing capability over time.

In the past I've found UV fluid and tubing to be a massive let down, doesn't look anywhere as good as the pictures make you believe.

I'm using mayhems x1 UV blue and that too is very underwhelming...even added some extra dye to it.
Got some 5mm UV led's and a 12" UV strip but hardly noticeable..soon to be replaced but not sure what with just yet.

I'm using Mayhems UV Green and it's glows crazy mad. Sorry for the crap picture

UV definitely fades, but it's odd you aren't getting anything from a new bottle. You opened the bottle fresh and you got nothing?? That is very odd. What LED strip are you using exactly?

Some colours are more UV reactive than others. As you can probably guess, green is the most reactive, light blue I would say comes next, then purple & deep blue; whereas red and orange have the most "subtle" effect. Then you have the problem that most LED strips are crap, especially when it comes to UV. I've only been satisfied with the quality and brightness of DarkSide rigid strips.

I put a lot of effort into searching for what UV light to use for my build, ended up using led strip but not the usual 5050 60 per meter that's sold everywhere. I used 3528 120 per meter and they work extremely well.

It seems you're cancelling out all the UV with the red and white lighting! UV generally needs to be the only lighting... it doesn't play well with anything else, I've rarely seen it do so anyway. Try with JUST the UV strip and nothing else and see how it looks. Failing that, I would suggest the UV strip you have is duff or isn't actually UV as advertised. There is no reason you shouldn't get ANY reaction even from something that's a month old.

Just looking at the photo, I agree with above. No point having other leds lighting there too. Just use the UV leds and see what happens.

The photo is with the other lights on because it is the only one I have, it is the same if I turn them off.

The LEDs are putting out UV light, I put a highlighter pen under it and that was clearly visible even with the other lights.

I would suggest you chat to Mayhems about it, or just get some new coolant. I can't speak specifically to that LED strip you have, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.
