We've been looking at replacing the little petrol matiz 1.2l runabout and after looking at virtually all the manufacturer's offerings the Mazda 2 seems to push all the right(ish) buttons given the price-value.

Would be looking at the auto version as the mrs has a horrible habit of slipping/sitting on the clutch/slamming clutch.

Would be looking at 2017 model revamp. However any comments about the previous versions are good.

My brother in law has had the third and fourth generation versions as a driving instructors car and he's not really had anything majorly wrong with them. Good little cars.

We test drove the 1.5 90ps vesion and although the car felt solid, refined and well put together the engine, being non-turbo, is not a patch on the 1.0l ecoboost in our fiesta. Very little grunt when pulling away and overtaking and to have to rev it a lot to extract any perfomance...

Oh and we did own the previous version, one in 2008 and another three years later, with both of them the alloys bubbled quite badly. The first car they replaced them but with the second they refused quoting it was normal. The interiors of those cars were poor with hard black plastic and seats that creaked, hence our move to a fiesta in 2013 and we've just placed a order for the mk8.
There is a mazda 2 owners forum here http://www.mazda2forums.co.uk/

Thank you for that - seems other than the hard ride, the NA engine not having a real power band, the wheel alloy bubbling, the creaking seats.. compared to a Matiz..

I've had a focus MkII for 11 years until this year, however due to 'customer care' incident with ThinkFord.. I don't consider Ford as they're the franchise local here. Pity as the Fiesta may even be a good car.

We've looked any Hyundai ix20, Kia, fiat .. etc all seem to have issues but more importantly fail the 6'4 in the back test.. The Mazda just about fits the 6'4 in the back doesn't have the flat boot.. just seems to be behind the curve in features however seems to be a nice place to be when in the driving seat.. will have to book at test drive first..

If you want a car that will fit a 6'4" person in the front and at the back at the same time with the largest boot in it's class then the seat ibiza is the one to go for. You just have to ignore the top of the dash, but deals with up to £4500 off a new car can be had. The car itself to drive is very good with the 1.0l engine and quite refined. It is a better car than the Mazda, having driven them both you will find the mazda quite lethargic...
