Anybody have experience of Mazda main dealer warranty.

My brother bought a 2007 Mazda 3 from a main dealer just under a year ago.

The car has developed a knock from the rear which is apparently a failed shock absorber (according to local Mazda dealer who inspected whilst conducting an MOT). Also, one of the interior speakers is faulty.

1) Can the car be taken to any Mazda dealer for warranty work? The supplying dealer is not our local dealer.

2) Would you assume a shock absorber to be covered? The car has done around 35k miles.

I've yet to read through the paperwork but I am sure it has a large section on normal wear and tear and consumables. Would a 35k old shock absorber fall in this category?

You can take it to any Mazda dealer. I think shock absorbers are one of those things and will really depend on the dealers interpretation.

I very much doubt he will get that covered unless he's taken out some kind of extended warranty. It's a 6 year old, second hand car which has developed a fault 1 year after buying it. The dealer isn't going to shoulder the blame for that.

If it's from a main dealer, was it approved used Mazda? In which case it should be covered under the year warranty you get from them. Whether the shock absorber is covered is questionable of course.
