Hi,

My friend asked me to upgrade his old pc. He's got a budget of £400 and needs a MB,CPU and RAM. He doesn't play any games but he requires a fast responsive system. So what I picked:

i5-2500K £169.99
Asus P8Z68-V £124.98
Kingston HyperX Gray 2x4GB £43.99
Thermalright Venomous X Silent £34.98

What do you think about this? He already has a PSU and SSD so don't need that.

Having a psu is all well and good but what make/model is it? a cheapo/no brand even if it's say 700w is worse than a good quality 400w/500w. never a good idea to skimp on the psu or you risk it taking the rest of the pc with it if it goes bang.

It's not for photoshop or anything specific, he just want a fast pc for everyday usage. I mean he wants it to boot quickly, to react fast, etc.

 well if not for gaming or anything specifically tasking i see no problem with a fast SSD and windows 7, even a dual core DDR2 system should be very fast with the latest SSD tech like the crucial M4

allright that mb should be good enough thanks but now he says that he will want to play the new star wars game when it comes out  what about an hd6850 gpu? is there anything better for £100ish ?
