I think I have some sort of motherboard difficulty on an old, but until recently, faithful PC. The USB ports are no longer working and neither is the onboard sound since I changed from Windows98 to XP. I was advised elsewhere in this forum to post my motherboard details and ask for help, but how do I find out what my motherboard is? If I open the PC will there be a label on it? Cheers.

CPU-Z will usually tell you what motherboard you have - or at least what chipset it uses.

Are you installing SP2 of Win XP as i think it needs at least SP1 to get USB2 working.

Have you reinstalled the sound drivers off your mobo cd?

Thanks for the reply. What is CPU-Z?

The XP version was loaded from the standard disc which came with my (now broken due to a nasty fall) laptop.

I've located my drivers disc which appears to contain the sound drivers and the usb drivers (it's an 8 year old computer so I guess it's not usb2?), but have had no success in using it via the Windows install wizards.

Thanks again.
